The Leverett Municipal Light Plant (LMLP) manages LeverettNet as a telecommunications network, pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 164, Section 47E.
The LMLP contracts with third parties to provide Network Operator and Internet Service Provider functions over the network.
The LMLP is governed by a three-member Board appointed by the Leverett Select Board. Current members of the Board are:
- Rob Brooks, Chair
- George Drake
- Bob Weller
The LMLP Board appoints a Manager. The current Manager is Margie McGinnis.
The Board and Manager oversee all contracts related to LeverettNet and develop an annual budget for network operations and maintenance. The sum total of the annual budget is divided by the number of subscribers to LeverettNet and assessed on a monthly basis per subscriber as part of the bill for network services. The LMLP budget is wholly separate from the general budget for the Town of Leverett and funds are not commingled. LMLP bookkeeping, accounting, and audit processes are independent of the Town.
